convulsions?need advice

ok so as if my poor dd hasn't suffered enough lately, here is something else. I noticed a few weeks ago that while holding my dd in my arms that she just started shaking uncontrollably it seemed. it lasted less than 30 seconds and she didn't seem phased at all by it. she seemed completely normal so i just shrugged it off, well just a few minutes ago we were all sitting on the couch and my dd was sleepy and nursing. all of a sudden she started shaking again, it was so scary this time, even dh got scared! but again it only laster for maybe 20 seconds. and the confusing part was that through all of thay her breathing stayed relatively the same and she never stopped nursing or opened her eyes. I have dealt with seizure patients with varying degrees and it does not seem to be a seizure to me. she doesn't seem to lose conscienceness or be troubled at all. my dd doctor is out for the rest of the week so i cant go and see him, a trip to the er would be useless umless she does that while she is there. does anyone know what this can be? i am at a loss

It sounds to me like a seizure. My brother was exactly the same way, he is now 18 and is on medication for his seizures. I also have worked in the past with epileptic patients. To me, that's the way all signs point. Most people who have seizures do not lose their conscience, atleast, the people I have worked with. Deffinitely get it checked out..

I would have to agree. I too have worked with children with seizures of so many varying degrees. Many of the kids I have dealt with had similar activity initially and then it would change into something more noticeable when the got older.
It can never hurt to be cautious.

Re: convulsions?need advice

sorry about how i worded things earlier, i didn't mean to lose consciousness as if fainting or anything like that. I have been thinking a lot about this since it happened and am really scared now. I don't want her on those horrible seizure medications. the adults that i have worked with that were on those meds became basically different. i don't want all of that for her. i am definately going to keep an eye on her and see if it happens again. we are going back to her regular doctor in a few weeks and i am going to bring it up to him. thank you for your replies. i just hope that she doesn't have anymore episodes like this and maybe it was just like a two time thing? lol! but yeah i will definately bring this up with her doctor. thanks ladies!

Re: convulsions?need advice

well after doing quite a bit of research and of course your replies! i am thinking that it could very well be simple partial seizures or something of that sort. i am going to get ahold of her doctor's staff and see what i should do. she just had another 'episode' which lasted about 10 seconds at most. i am so scared for her and i dont even know where to start! her doctor wont be back in until monday but i think this problem should be addressed immediately. i am off to look for support groups and determine what the next step should be...
