stuffy nose in a new house - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

We moved into a new house 4 months ago and it seems like my now one year old son has had a stuffy nose since. He has also had to have breathing treatments three times because he becomes weezy. My DR dosen't seem to think that the new house is an issue but I can't figure out why my little man can't kick the stuffys. It might go away for a week but always comes back. Has anyone had the same problem with the stuffys and any ideas if its the house??? My husband also has had a weird skin rash since we moved here..

Just out of curiosity, is it a brand new house or just new to you? If it was previously owned it wouldn't hurt to get it inspected if you haven't already. DH's sister just had their home done because they were getting sick quite a bit and found out that there was mould in the walls that they couldn't see. If you think that might be it, I wouldn't hesitate to get it looked into.

The house was built in the 70's and seems to be real solid but maybe I will check it out! I feel bad for my little man.

Hi! We just moved into a new house as well and for a couple weeks my husband and I had sore throats in the mornings and were generally stuffed up. Our 1 yr old was also stuffy.

A few things you might want to check:

1. MOLD... A regular house inspection won't properly test for this, you need to specifically ask for someone certified by your state to test. A lot of times mold is something you would never know existed in your house unless you have a proper inspection and it can be extremely dangerous to your health.

2. Double check the filter in your A/C

3. Maybe think about having your ducts cleaned if you think it may not have been done in a while.

4. Have the rugs professionally shampooed, maybe the past owner had a pet that baby is allergic to.?

Is your new house fairly dry? Our home is, especially during the winter when the furnace is on. After living here for over 7 yrs, we've gotten used to it, but visitors tend to have the same problems here- stuffy/running nose and sore throat. I keep a humidifier on.
