Yeah, that's what we're going to do. In fact, we're putting a twin mattress on the floor in her room, and one on the floor in our room. Now that she's starting to crawl I don't feel comfortable with her napping during the day on our bed (where I usually nurse her down, then roll away). I'd like a mattress on the floor in her room for day time naps, that way I can close the door and keep the dogs out. I'll watch her with the video monitor. Her room will also be "baby proofed" incase she gets out of bed before I get to her.
I'm undecided about using a twin mattress in our room or a co-sleeper. I like the idea of not getting out of bed with the co-sleeper, but she's already 6 months old, so I'm guessing she'll be reaching the weight limit on it soon (not too sure on that, I'd have to look it up), which means I might as well just do the twin on the floor. That way I can just lay down with her to nurse her back to sleep.
She is actually in a phase right now where she PREFERS to sleep on her own (

) so I usually put her down for the first part of the night in the crib. I hate it. It's so inconvenient to walk all the way to the other side of the house when she wakes up.
And I also had a mishap the other night with our monitor. I HATE relying on a man made gadget to begin with, but then to have it fail REALLY made me feel bad. 2 hours went by where she went unchecked, and if it had not been for my husband getting up to go to the bathroom and hearing her cry God only knows how long she would have been in there wondering where mama was. I haven't left her in there since. When I go to bed I bring her to our room and put her in the pack and play. I am now a bigger believer in co-sleeping then ever before. If there had been a fire, or a robbery, or a tree crashing on the house in a storm.. I wouldn't have known about it (her room is on the other side of the house). Mama's were meant to sleep with their babies. Co-sleeping isn't just about convenience, it's about survival. I would NEVER forgive myself if something happened and I woke up to find the monitor not working. Or if something happened that could have been prevented by having her close by (like choking, which is a real possibility considering she has reflux).
Cookie, I guess you can kind of tell my thoughts on the subject. Ava is 6 months old (today) and still sleeps with us. She will for quite a while yet. That's ok with me. As long as I nurse her at night I have no intentions of wandering around the house in the dark to get her. WAY to inconvenient. LOL.
Do you have room to put a twin mattress on your floor?
