Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

My DS came down with this on Wed. night around 1am. So we had a very rough Thanksgiving. I have been holding him and doing my best to make him comfortable ever since. I have been giving him Motrin every 6 hrs. Can anyone give me ideas on how to make him more comfortable or how to get him to eat? Hope you know what I mean by Hand Foot and Mouth Disease or Hoof and Mouth Disease. I can't spell the medical term.

Re: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Oh my gosh, I sympathize you. My son had this when he was a year and a half old, and it was awful. Motrin every six hours, Tylenol in between, about every two hours. But check with your doctor first. The doctor can prescribe Lidocaine, a topical that sort of numbs the pain. It's worth a try. My son wouldn't eat food for days,I was so worried about him dehyrating. He just drank slushies and sucked on ice pops.....and even that was torture. The mouth sores lasted about five days. Good Luck , I hope he feels better soon!

Supposedly from mouth to mouth/saliva contact or from changing the diaper of an infected child and then touching another child. But the weird part is that I don't know anyone with it. So I asked around and it can happen with a cold.

I have never heard of this, when I orginaly saw the title I thought it was gonna be about how babies won't keep their hands and feet out of their mouths!
What does it do?
And I hope you little one gets better soon!

Re: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

It is a virus, with blisters on their hands, feet and in their mouths and sometimes on the butt or body. Comes with a fever and loss of appitite and inability to eat due to the mouth full of blisters. Lasts 5-7 days and is contagious 3 days before they break out. Other then pain meds like Tylenol or Advil there is nothing they can do but let it run its course.I have not gotten sleep for over a week now. And I feel like DS is surgically attached to me. But I do feel sorry for him since he is so miserable but sleep would be nice. He has taken to screaming if it is anyone but me, not even DH can help.
