I need sleep!

I know there about a hundred "my kid won't sleep" threads... I am just at my whit’s end! Ds#2 is 7 mos today and he gets up a minimum of once a night. Usually twice. Some times more. Is he really waking up because he is hungry? Ds#1 slept through the night (until 4-5am) at a month old. Has anyone had problems with them being so gassy it wakes them up? I wonder if that wakes him up and then he thinks he needs a bottle to go back to sleep? I bought some “Baby Bliss” yesterday hoping that would help at night. But it wasn’t much different. He was up at 1:30. Then up for good at 5:30. I know “all babies are different” and “eventually he will sleep through the night” But today is one of those days where that just doesn’t work for me… Any advice/opinions?

Re: I need sleep!

go outside shut the door behind you scream then come back in - no seriously it may relieve some tension i know it helps me sometimes when i get frustrated lol. yes you are right all babys are different but maybe you could check is your baby warm enough maybe he is waking for other reasons but because you ofer a bottle and he takes it you think it means he is hungry. i have heard others suggest try gradually watering down the middle of the night feed, secondly you could look at how much he is eating in the day. is hwe getting enough food to fill himup in the day to see him through the night? good luck for a good night soon

Re: I need sleep!

try giving him a pacifier instead of a bottle..for me it always worked with the pacifier...if they cry at night I try not to feed because babies are smart and they get use to it. I give the pacifier and pretend that I am not there ( it worked for me)

Re: I need sleep!

He won't take a pacifier any more. He started spitting them out at about 4 months. I tried watering down his formula. Once it gets too watered down he just screams and pushes it away. In desperate times I have let him cry for 5-10 minutes, then checking on him but nothing seems to work. I also have a 5 year old that sleeps pretty heavy but if his baby brother cries for too long it wakes him up and I have two grumps awake in the middle of the night... I will make sure he is staying warm enough. I hadn't thought of that. I'm just always afraid he will get the blanket wrapped around his head. He likes to sleep with blankets over his face and it freaks me out. I wrap him in a fleece blanket then give him a loosely crocheted blanket so he won't pull the fleece over his face.

Re: I need sleep!

I so sympathize with what you are going through. My ds which is 14 months was the same way. He still on occasion will wake up but nothing like he used to. I honestly didn't think I'd ever get to sleep again! The doctor told me I needed to start letting him cry a bit to see if he'd stop because I'd always rush in and they also told me to stop the night feedings but I am not sure at what age that was.Of course all those suggestions were easier said than done since they weren't here listening to a screaming infant all night. I have an older child too thats room is right next to my ds's so I always tried to quiet him. The ONLY thing that has worked for us and we still do it nightly, We have a cd player in his room that plays Native American Flutes (ALL NIGHT on repeat). I told the doctor this and they said it was a good idea. I am not sure how long we'll have to do it but for now he still likes it to play. Also my ds doesn't like the dark so I have a nightlight on and a fan for background noise. It raises the electricity bill but also helps my chances of sleeping.

Hope any of these suggestions might help. I went through the exact same thing!
