funny poo?

my son has recently been on a copurse of prednisolone - steroids and salbutamol inhailers. yesterday his poo went white in colour he then had the second does of his pcv injection. his poo has now gone a white/greyish colour and has bits of uindigested food in it. he has had 5 dirty nappys in 5 hours now and very unlike him he has drunk 6 ounces of fluid in an hour. i am waiting for nhs direct to call me back but i wonder if anyones lo ever experienced this before. tia

Re: funny poo?

i can't say that i ever experienced this with either one of my then baby boys but any sudden changes in the BMs,espescially color, should always be reported to his ped doc.while i DO remember seeing some really strange looking diapers at times, i did have to call the doc on one of them just because it freaked me out,but everything was fine eventually.it could possibly be related to meds, but it still needs to be evaluated for other possibilities, always.

this is a pretty significant change for him, espescially the white stool?this,in some cases, could be indicating a possible problem with liver function, but if it was just one diaper or BM,it could also have been the meds too.you just cannot really say for sure and thats why you did the right thing by contacting his ped.i guess you will unfortunetly just have to wait for them to call you,or you could just set up an appt and take him in,along with one of the more odd looking diapers.this i would most definitely place into a ziploc bag for pretty obvious reasons.but this does need to be looked into and explained at the very least.hope its just his meds and nothing else.please let me know just what you actually find out,K? good luck,Marcia

Re: funny poo?

Hey Weepy-
I know this is very concerning for you. I agree with feelbad that you really should contact your doctor. When bowel movements turn white, it can mean something is going on with the gallbladder and the bile production. Sometimes a stone obstructing the comon bile duct.

Did your prescribing doctor, or the medication information leaflet mention anything about side effects of this medication dealing with the gallbladder?

Please do call the doctor, and even take him a small sample of your son's bowel moevement so he can see it.

Good luck, and please do keep is posted.
