Omg !!!

So Im still pretty shaken up. DS fell off a chair today. Sometimes when I cant get him settled in his crib I'll put him on the chair (its a big lazyboy). Today he was sleeping for a good 2hours and I needed to get a shower. Not wanting to wake him I let him there and put the monitor next to him. Now I should mention I had him diagnal on the chair, head at the edge (bad position on my part.. I know) I thought this was okay and more safe since he's recently been rolling over! When I got out of the shower I noticed his head was at the very edge of the chair.. he moved up. I pushed him back and proceeded to blow dry my hair... .5 feet away LITERATLY! About 3mins later I heard a THUMP! I looked over at the chair and he wasnt there ! He fell !!! He was on the floor!! He cried his little eyes out for a minute or two but then he seemed okay. There was a little red mark on the side of his head so Im assuming he fell on his head. Its been 5 hours and the mark is gone and everything feels okay, and he's turning his head and moving his limbs fine. Thank god for carpet !!

I think I was more shaken then he was !!

Im so nervous now

Has this type of thing happened to anyone else before? Did you recover... mentally?

Re: Omg !!!

Awww...Almac, I think you just have to chalk this one up to "you live and learn..."

Although I don't have a similar story, I am sure I am going to do something in the future where I am just not thinking clearly and something happens to my DS.

Don't beat yourself up over it - just thank God he is OK.

Speaking of which, my DS is almost 3 months and isn't even close to rolling over. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Omg !!!

I don't recall how old my daughter, was but it might have been about 3-4 months. I was carrying her in my arms with her head in the crook of one arm and her legs in the crook of the other, facing up looking at me. I was going from one room to another when my foot got caught in the base of the bouncey chair and through the air I flew. On the way down, all I could think about was how I could land without landing on her and without her hitting the ground. But, I wasn't thinking about the chair that I was flying towards. We landed without me landing on her and she didn't hit the floor. But she hit the plastic arm of the office chair with the back/side of her head as she came down.

We took her to the emergency room just to be sure she was ok. She checked out fine. The ER doctor also told us about how his wife had fallen with their baby, about the same age as my daughter on the cement patio in the backyard and how his baby had hit the cement, but was ok. That made me feel a bit better, but I've got to tell you that I'm really skeptical about a baby being ok from hitting a cement patio.

You might want to call the pediatrician to find out if there's anything you should watch out for. Chances are that your little one is ok. But it may ease your mind to talk to the doctor. You don't have to tell how it happened, just that your baby fell and from what height.

Hugs!

Re: Omg !!!

I think it was probably more traumatizing for you than for your little one  Trust me, you'll recover, and your little one will have so many bumps, falls and topples when they start to walk (and climb!!!) it'll drive you buggy!!

I remember when my little one was around four months old, and I had him in the middle of our big bed while I put away clothes. Well, within a matter of seconds, he rolled off like a little burrito in his blankey. He was more shocked then anything! (and I called my sister, mom, and every mother I knew to make sure he was ok )

Actually, just recently my son was sitting on the couch (he's around 16 months) and he leaned forward to grab his fallen blankey. Well, he fell right smack on his head. I had visions of him breaking his poor little fragle neck, but he just got up, fussed a bit, I kissed it better and life went on as usual (now he is banned from the couch, but he still climbs on my rocking chair to my horror)

Anyways, this happens to almost every mom I know, and I am sure your little one will be ok...

Re: Omg !!!

its happened 2 times we DS already! like the day after he started rolling over i was changing his diaper on my bed and i had him laying to where if he were to roll over he wouldnt roll off, he would roll long ways on the bed...well i walked 2 ft away to throw his diaper away and i have NO idea how he did it but he rolled right off..didnt even phase him..just rolled to his belly again and tried to crawl (he tries very hard but cant do it at all) and not long ago he was sick and in the middle of the night when he woke up i just took him to bed with me and i couldnt find the bed rail things so i put a really long pillow on beside him(i was on the other side) cuz i know he cant roll over pillows and i always hear him as soon he wakes up anyway...but somehow again he woke up without makin a sound i guess and got the pillow off the bed and rolled right off too..he landed on the pillow thank god but yes it scared me VERY bad both times..but everyone i talk to, it has happened to a number of times...my sister has dropped all 4 of her kids and they have all fallen off...just be careful now when they roll over..cuz once they get the hang of it, they do it ALOT!!
