What kinds of things do you feed your 1 yr. old?

I was just curious what kinds of food everyone's 1 yr. olds and older eat/ate. I'm just curious because sometimes I feel like I'm slightly behind on what my almost year-old DD eats. She absolutrly loves her bottle and still likes her jar food...mostly bananas. I feel like I should be feeding her more "grown-up" foods since it seems like everything I read says I should be. I giver her lots of snacks like finger foods, biscuits, toast, etc. I tried giving her those gerber graduated fruit chunks in the jar but she doesn't like those. I also try giving her a little of what we're having for dinner, but she usually hates it, so I just give in and give her a jar of fruit or something becuase I know she'll eat it, then I give her a bottle because it's the "quick fix" even though I know I won't be able to do this in a few weeks.

Does anyone have any suggestions on things my DD might like that your little ones liked? I'm getting worried that she isn't getting all the nutrients she will need and I have to confess that I don't cook much, which is something I need to start doing more of, so the opportunity to introduce new foods isn't as often as I'd like. Any easy suggestions are helpful. Thanks!!

Re: What kinds of things do you feed your 1 yr. old?

Let your little girl cue you. I give my son a bite of almost EVERYTHING I eat. Today I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a biscuit. He ate half of my potatoes and half of my biscuit. I also ground up some of the chicken (without the skin of course), and gave him a few bites of it. He will be one year on 2/22. He lets me know if he likes it or not. If your little one is still content with smooth food, then so be it. All babies develop at a different rate. Just try a little at a time. She will get used to it in time.

Re: What kinds of things do you feed your 1 yr. old?

My daughter is 10 months and I feel like we are behind. First I worry about choking. Second she only has her two bottom teeth. She only likes tropical fruit and so I feed her mango, peaches, pineapple, and orange mixtures of the 2nd foods yet. She drinks from a sippy, but she doesn't like her formula out of it yet. I have the same worries ahead for me........

Re: What kinds of things do you feed your 1 yr. old?

I have a 17 month old DD and she never ate jar food. She hated it so I used to cook veggies for her and put the in the blender and she was very happy with that. Children like to immitate their parents so when we sat down for dinner she would sit with us and always wanted a bite of our food. She loved our food so much that I stopped making seperate for for her at about 8 months and gave her what we were having. For example, rice is easy and very good for them, at first I would make some plain rice and put some butter and feed her. Then I slowly added veggies to the rice and she loved it. Mashed potatos, sweet potatos are also good. Remember that in order for a child to aqcuire a new taste they need to try it about 15 times. Just keep trying. Also as fruit goes, banana mashed up is good, try grating some apples or pears.
I am lucky that my DD eats just about everything but even when she doesn't I just keep trying over and over.
As for getting enough nutrition don't worry, their milk supplies everything they need.
Come back if you have any questions about cooking or food, I would love to give you more tips.

Re: What kinds of things do you feed your 1 yr. old?

Great thread--I was wondering about this too. DS just had his one year checkup today! He eats mostly table foods, but I sometimes make him something else if I'm eating something that might not agree with him. The turkey and chicken you get in a can is a real quick way to get some protien if I'm not cooking that day--mix it with some veggies and a piece of bread and a slice of cheese--that's what he'll eat for a typical meal. I've got one of those baby food processors so he still eats all his veggies/fruit all blended up. He's only got four teeth and it's much easier to lightly blend stuff than to stand there for 15 minutes chopping up broccoli in my opinion. I do give him some baby food when I'm short on time or when we're out--some of the stage three stuff or one of the toddler dinners. He refuses the sippy cup. I'd really like know how to get him weaned from the bottle. He had his first bottle of whole milk today--he didn't really like it. Going from all baby food to table food took about a month--there was quite a bit of gagging in the beginning because I gave him baby food for like 4-5 months but it only lasted a few days until he got used to it.
What do you guys do for healthy quick meals?
