I know I shouldn't listen to them but..

I know I shouldn't listen to other people when they try to tell me my son is not where he should be. I think my son is doing fine! He is above average for his height, weight, length and head circumfrance (sp) but my S.I.L. & M.I.L. act like he is behind because he can't roll over yet and he just turned 4 months. He also only drinks about 4 to 5 ounces a feeding about every 2 hours. My S.I.L. claims he should be drinking 8. Both of them think it's odd he isn't sleeping all night. He goes in spurts like 3 hours here and there and all of a sudden the next night he will sleep like 5 hours and then get up every 2 after that. I heard babies roll over and sleep all night by 6 months at the latest. Is that true for most babies that you know of? I know not all babies are that way.

Re: I know I shouldn't listen to them but..

ahhhh the in laws... my son just sarted rolling over about a month ago... so he was 6 months, since then its been his new favorite thing! ok as far as sleeping we he slept 12 hours but was us alot in the middle of the night, so i would just give him his nuk. trust me my mil is insane, she tried telling me that i should wake him up in the middle of the night to feed him or he would be obese... ummm how does that make sence? i told her i don't wake up in the middle of the night to eat, why should he? now he was about 4 or 5 months then... she tried telling me he wasn't ready for solids at 6 months and i was giving him too much, she even had dh getting on my case. well i took him to his recent check up and it turns out i should even be giving him a small meal after breakfast. they think they know it all. you child is your own, im sure you are a wonderful mother, every baby is different, yes there are certain milestones, but they all reach them at different times. as long as your child can do certain things by a year you are fine. take care!!!

OMG! How rude for them to say that. Why would they say something like that? Are they trying to upset you?

My son is 3 months and drinks about 6 oz. every 4 hours. Essentially, he eats about 30 oz. in a 24 hour period - which is exactly where he should be. You need to go by how much your son eats over the course of a day.

As for sleeping, all babies are different. My son just started sleeping 6-8 hours at night. I just consider myself to be lucky.

Your babe is fine. Don't let your MIL or SIL get to you.

Hi there, dd was only drinking 4 oz every 2-3 hours at 4 months. Also, she is now 6 months and has just now started rolling over (and not all that often). She is the happiest baby and doing well so no worries, sounds like your baby is right on track!

Re: I know I shouldn't listen to them but..

Honestly, the best thing for you to do is just smile, nod, and tell them thank you for the advice....and then let it roll right out of your head You'll worry yourself sick if you listen to your family tell you what your child shoudl or shoudl not do.

Every baby is different, they grow at different rates and eat at their own rate. Whatever your baby is doing, and as long as your little one is happy and healthy, then I wouldn't worry about a thing
