How long to get over a cold?

DS is 4.2 months and has his first cold. He was sleeping and eating perfectly before this bug came along. It has been almost 2 weeks since this cold started, and he still isn't sleeping through the night or eating well. Althoug, he is a happy baby during the day.

He was at the doctor yesterday for a checkup and all is well. She felt he isn't sleeping or eating well b/c he is still congested.

How long does it take to get rid of a cold?

Re: How long to get over a cold?

I find with both of my kids that the runny nose and the congestion tend to hang around for awhile afterwords. Both my kids fell sick last weekend and have been on antibiotics for the last 7 days. The ear infections are gone, but the cough and the runny nose are still hanging around. Just keep an eye on him. Elevate his head at night and use a humidifier in his room. I will use Vicks on their chest as well. They do sell Vicks for infants. Good luck! You'll find that even the slightest change (travel, cold, teething) can upset their sleep routine.

Give him steam. DS recovers very quickly when he gets a cold, cough, congestion with steam. I just run the shower and stay with him in the bathroom for 15mins. If you can then spray saline drops before the steam and then suck using a bulb after the steam. It helps a great deal!

Re: How long to get over a cold?

I am using the humidifier, nose drops, and the baby Vicks. I will try the steam tonight and will then try using the nasal aspirator.

I was more or less wondering how long it might take until a baby bounces back from these things.
