7 month old & fighting naps~ - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I hope someone can relate! My 7 month old usually takes a 1 hour nap in the am and then a 2 hour nap in the pm.Her afternoon nap she always wakes up a little bit crying after about 45 min and I have to pat her and shhhhh her and sometimes it's a struggle to get her back to sleep. I know she needs to cause she's crying and not happy. I usually lay with her cause it's easier to get her back to sleep instead of her waking the whole way up.She has been doingthis since she was born.I don't want to start a bad habit so I recently have been putting her down in her crib.I have to go in her room several times and pat her back to sleep.Will she grow out of this or why does she do it???? Sometimes I hear her cry out at night but most of the time she goes back to sleep on her own, rarely do I need to go to her room. This is my first so I don't know.I thought babies just laid down and took a nap!!! Please someone reply!!!

My daughter is 7 1/2 months and she has fought sleep since she was born. I have to hold her and nurse her to get her to go to sleep and she still throws her arms and legs when she knows that she is almost asleep. I wish I knew a way to get her to sleep. She usually will only take a nap if Im holding her. I have been trying to break her of this since in a little less than a month she will be going to day care for a few hours a day. I would hate for them to have to deal with this. She went from taking 2-3 naps a day to taking maybe one nap a day. If anyone has any tips I would also like to know. We also just put her in her own room a couple nights ago and she wakes up screaming in the mornings. She used to just play when she was in our room but now she has no interest in her toys.

Mine fought tooth and nail from birth against sleep. He was suffering from sleep apnea though. If your children snore, you should look into a consultation with an ENT and sleep specialist. Otherwise consider it normal adjustment to changes.

My 6 1/2 mo is doing this too. She has always fought sleep, but now I can't put her down AT ALL when she's napping. She wakes up and screams! It's horrible, but she's sleep at night now so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Also the only time she takes a GOOD nap during the day is if I nap with her and she does the same thing as yours. She wakes up crying after like 45 minutes and then I have to get her back to sleep, but she'll sleep for another hour or so. Sorry I don't have any helpful advice. I just wanted to say it's happening here too.

Oh, she also naps well in the stroller.....sometimes, but I have to keep it moving.

Thanks for the replies! At least I am not alone.

I hope this is something they will grow out of!!!! Sometimes even if I lay with her, she will be almost asleep THEN she will look at me and start pulling at my eyes or nose then she is awake! Then I can forget the nap all together! But JOANNER what you described is exactly what she does everyday!!!!!! It's almost 45 min to the second...she does it for my mom too!

Here's hoping someone else has some ideas for us!!!!
