A few random q's

My dd is going for her second set of shots in 2 weeks. I was wondering what do you all do to make the experience easiar? And if your baby takes tylenol..do you do it before or after the shots? Her doc didn't offer her any last time but others have told me that same doc offered it to their babies...go figure.

And also I was curious, where do your babies first teeth come in...the bottom front? I wasn't sure where to check for them.

One last question, at around 4 months..when did your babies nap? My dd has spells where she won't take any naps..she's up about 16 hours straight, no naps in between ..then goes to bed for the night, waking 2-3 times to nurse, but immediately going back to sleep after each nursing section till morning. Is it normal she stays awake so long w/o naps?

Sorry so many questions, I only wanted to do one post. Thanks for any replies.

Re: A few random q's

Hey staceylee,
i give my daughter tylenol right before the nurse comes in and gives her the shots. also after she has had the shots they said tylenol every 4 to 6 hours that night and all the next day. my daughter doesnt have any fever or anything from the shots so i think tylenol works well.
my daughter started getting her 1st tooth at 6 months.she just turned 7 months and now has 2 bottom teeth growing in. i have also gave her tylenol for teething when needed, the doc said this was fine.
my baby has always been a good sleeper.she sleeps through the night and always has, guess i am a lucky one! she naps about every 4 to 5 hours.she lets me know when she is tired cause she gets cranky.
what may help ur baby nap better is i use the johnson and johnson sleepy time bath and also the lotion, it works wonders!
if i was u i would discuss ur baby staying up so long without napping, 16 hours is a very long time.

Re: A few random q's

My daughter is 4 months old and I give her tylenol while we are sitting in the waiting room. She doesnt run a fever and she isnt cranky afterwards so its helping alot. She has just started teething so I am glad you asked this question. But I wouldnt worry about the whole napping thing. My daughter takes catnaps a couple of times a day. Literally she will close her eyes for 5 maybe 10 minutes tops and shes awake again. She does sleep through the night from about 10am til 7am. I think some babies can just go without sleep.

Re: A few random q's

Tylenol and shots:
I give it when we get home. The purpose is mainly for fever that MAY (or may not!) occur with vaccinations. Secondary is for pain/soreness at the injection site. I figure that she's not going to run a fever immediately nor is the soreness going to set in right away. Plus, if the doctor is running late, I don't want to give it too early so that I don't have to give another dose unecessarily. The actual crying parts usually only lasts 10-15 seconds after the last shot goes in, and I just try to calm her and talk to her lovingly (even singing) to help calm her down.

Teeth:
Bottom front 2, then top front 2, then a molar or two (up and down), then the bicuspids.

Napping:
Occasionally my daughter (22 weeks) skips a nap, too -- mainly in the afternoon. She usually goes RIGHT to sleep on those nights instead of tossing and turning a little first. Other days she'll take 5 or 6 little (20-30 minutes) naps throughout the day instead of 2 or 3 longer naps. Each day is different (how fun!).

Re: A few random q's

My son was extremely sensitive to and allergic to some of the vaccines. He actually had seizures from his 2 mo. old vaccinations that put him in the hospital. We had to go into vaccine rotations were in two week increments we would go in and get 1 vaccination at a time. We had to give him motrin before.. and oscillate every three hours tylenol/ motrine/ tylenol for 2-4 days after each shot and pray he didn't get a sinus or ear infection as a result.

Turns out he still has the problem at four.. and he can not take the DPaT vaccine.. like me he can only have T (Tetinus(sp)) The Dyptheria and Whooping cough vaccines we are highly allergic to and have fever induced seizures.

Giving tyleonl before will only make it better for your child.. and not hurt them.

Sincerely,
MG
