Help with 7 month old - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I have a 7 month old baby and he is a good baby but lately he is crying and crying and really fights to take a nap or go to bed...the cries will sometimes end up with him coughing and gagging because he is crying so hard and he is rubbing his eyes so hard, I have tried everything....car seat used to work, I have let him cry it out, rocked him, played with him, read to him, sit with him and talk to him. I don't know if it is because he is teething (his first tooth broke through), I just want to know if this is normal...I am kind of at a breaking point.

He is certainly at the teething age. Is he chewing on his fists, drooling more, bit rashy around the mouth? Some babies can get quite distressed with teething and his behaviour does sound like teeth. Have you got some of those freezable teething rings? They are good. Give him a dose of baby paracetamol, see if that helps. He is also coming to the age where he can be starting to get a bit of separation anxiety when you leave him in bed. Everyone has different methods of dealing with this.

Poor dear! Sounds like teething to me as well. I would definitely give him something for the pain. I use Tylenol and it works very well. Try something and see if it helps, then you will know for sure.

My dd was always a good baby too. She barely fussed even when her first 3 bottom teeth came in. But when she started cutting her top front teeth she was crazy. Nothing made her happy, which wasn't my baby at all.

I suggest some tylenol, especially before a nap or bedtime. Sometimes the laying down makes it worse. Also, maybe you can find him a really good chewing toy. It took me a while, but now she chews on one of her blocks and that has seemed to help.

Thanks for your advice, I have tried the tylenol, it's just so hard sometimes to watch him cry like that because your never quite sure if teething is the problem. I managed to get him down for a nap this afternoon but again in his car seat. Thanks again.
