Innocent Heart Murmur in 5 month old - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

My son is about to complete 6 months on May 18th. In the last 2 visits teh Pedeatrician heard a heart murmur; she thinks it is innocent and nothing to worry about. However, she also said that it might be good to consult a cardialogist if we want.

I am really worried sick about this. She named the murmur as Still's murmur. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Yes. i was born with one.. one of my valves is short causing backwashing of the blood and periodic hiccups due to gradual oxygen depletion of my blood. I was a high school and college athelete and now am a martial arts instructor.

Getting a baseline echocardiagram is a good idea and it will not hurt the child.. think of it as a sonagram for the heart.

My daughter had a murmur when she was around 3-4 months old. The Dr. never gave it a specific name so it might not be the same thing as your son's. Hers was gone by the time she was a year old. Good luck!

Did it last for 6-7 months until she was a year old?
