My son is 5 months old and hes a big boy we took him to his 4 month check up last month and he weighed at that time 19lbs he dosnt look chubby hes just big, well anyways at night he wakes up through the night maybe 4 times wanting a bottle he use to sleep through the night about 2 months ago. I just dont know what to do i just want him to sleep through the nite. Help please
MY son is 8 months and is 19 pounds. Well my suggestion is to feed him a lot during the day so he gets most of his calories then. My friends baby is like yours, big boy, by 8 months he was eating table foods! Mine is nowhere near table foods he only eats pureed food still. Are you doing solids yet? SKip right over rice cereal and start with sweet potatos or butternut squash. If he eats it right up you know he is ready for food. Feed him as much as he wants during the day and he should start sleeping better at night. I feed my baby every 2 hours all day long and he sleeps 10-12 hours straight at night. He eats 4 meals a day of solids and at least 20-24 oz of formula a day. I mix at least 2 of his meals with cereal/formula to keep up protein and iron. Good luck!
My little guy hated the cereal. He would get a strange look on his face and the cereal would sit on his tongue. But when he got some applesauce it was a different story (although he still did find it strange). He loves sweet potatoes too. I would just skip the cereal if he's not interested in it. THere's no reason for him to have to eat cereal.
Try to give him 80-90% of his bottles during waking hours (this may take awhile to accomplish as you slowly push the feedings closer together).
He may be waking at night again because of teething issues, not due to hunger. Try soothing him first to see if he goes back to sleep on his own. My DH gave our 5.5 month old 6 oz the other night at 2:30 am (ack!!!) when she woke up and was tossing and turning. He didn't just sooth her back to sleep (paci, lovey next to her face, pat her belly, etc.). It took me 5 more nights of cutting back that bottle (1 oz at a time) to get her to sleep all night without a bottle. It's common for her to wake up and fuss a little, but she doesn't need that bottle. She drinks 30 oz during the day, plus a morning and evening "meal" of 1/2 jar of stage 1 or 2 food and 2-3 tablespoons of cereal mixed with formula.
