Do you all sterilize your bottles after every use or do you just wash them? I think I read on a previous post that you don't have to sterilize them after each usage. I wash mine with a bottle brush and dish soap and then strilize them. Is this not necessary. Its really easy, I use the medela bags for sterilizing the breast pump, accessories and bottles and it only takes 3 min in the microwave but I was just wondering what everyone else does.
We have very hot water so I just get it as hot as I can and wash them. I've never sterilized them. I might of had I been able to breastfeed more but he goes through so many bottles a day I'd be boiling constantly. My ob/gyn was actually kidding around with my husband and me that he and his wife sterilized everything for their first but stopped for their second. I guess it's just experience.
I would love to use the drop in liners but I use the Dr. Brown's bottles and I cant use them with the bottles. I love the bottles so I won't switch. My DD has never thrown up since I started using them.
You should sterilise everything until your baby is at least 8 months old and their bottles until a year. Hot water doesn't kill all bacteria. Plus there is harmful bacteria in water thats why babies should only recieve cooled boiled water.
I sterilize when first purchased, but soak them in hot soapy water and clean them with a brush. I also put them in the dishwasher once a week to be sure they are all "thoroughly" cleaned and then rinse them after they come out. Especially with the Dr. Brown bottles which have so many parts.
