Scratched on the Nose - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I accidentally scratched my 1-year-old DS across the nose while bathing him - its not deep, seems its a surface scratch, but its a pretty big scratch across the top of his nose. I cleaned it and put some polysporin on it, and after crying a bit when it happened, DS was playful and upbeat, so I don't think he's hurting too much. As for me, aside from feeling ABSOLUTELY AWFUL about this - I am really afraid it will scar. Any advice on how I can try to prevent that?

If it's a surface scratch and not deep it shouldn't scar. (otherwise my children would be full of scars with all the scratches they got playing!)

It really shouldn't scar. As I'm sure you know, kids are constantly getting scratches and cuts and they don't leave permanent scars. I think you're ok here.

Isn't it the worse feeling in the world when you cause a booboo. I don't think you have too much to worry about. Your face is very vascular and therefore heals quicker than a lot of other areas on your body. A scratch is usually considered "superficial" and should heal quite nicely without scaring. Just keep an eye for signs of infection, which would be very rare. Good luck

i cannot tell you how many times i have done the same thing to my own babies!!! you'll be amazed at how quickly his scratch will heal and disappear! i remember my older daughter had an incident with a cardboard box just after her first birthday (it was the box a toy had come in). she was trying to get at something in the box and she tripped and fell and the corner of the box cut two HUGE scratches in her cheek... it was horrible!!! we were visiting family and so we have all these pictures with these awful scratches... anyway, within a month they'd faded to almost nothing, and just now when she came in to give me a love

(she's 3 1/2 now), i looked at her cheek and there's absolutely nothing there! kids heal fast... i wouldn't worry about it!
