baby getting gas from whole milk????

My one year old dd is switching to whole milk. We started 1 oz of milk to 4 oz formula. The past 2 nights she has been fussy(after sleeping all night for months) like tossing & turning, whining in her sleep and passing gas. Could this be the whole milk? Also, how long should we do 1 oz...a week? Will she get used to the milk eventually? She is also having more frequent bms and they are looser. Any advice????

Kinda sounds like she might be lactose intolerant. Those are the symptoms of it anyway.

you might try going back to just formula for a few days and see if her symptoms clear up. then you would know if it was the milk. i think with both my girls we did half milk, half formula for one bottle and then went straight milk forever after that (we really just didn't want to go spend another $20 on another can of formula!). hope things get better!

I agree that it is probably either lactose intolerance or milk protein allergy. Probably the first, b/c an allergy would have come from the formula unless she is on soy or a hypoallergenic one. I would switch back and see too. Good luck!

Re: baby getting gas from whole milk????

What kind of formula was your child on? I had to switch formula b/c of a milk allergy. My son used soy formula and then went to soy milk. We have since been able to go to milk since he has now grown out of his allergy. Like the others said, try to switch to formula again for a couple days and then go back to the milk. If the gas goes away and then returns, then you have your answer. Good luck!

Re: baby getting gas from whole milk????

She was on soy formula. We tried soy milk with it and she had bad diarrhea. So we went on whole milk (per doc) and she still has loose bms and they are more frequent then when she was just on formula. She went once a day then, now it's like 3-4. Is this normal? Should they be mushy? I am shopping for a new doctor also cause mine is pretty worthless! He hardly talks and doesn't tell me what to do as far as the milk. When I said she had diarrhea, he didn't even acknowledge it???? Any tips?? How often does your LO's go potty?? Thanks!
