So Frustrating

I find myself sitting here, just wanting to give up. No matter how hard I search, I can't find an answer. It hurts so badly to see him cry in pain, and even worse when I know that I can't really do much to fix it. He was doing SO well Monday and yesterday and today we're going back down hill. Why can't the Zantac just work and KEEP working? I'm so tired of 2 day turn arounds and then going right back to what we were dealing with before. I know other people are dealing with this, but I just feel so alone. I sit here and see my nephew who's responding BEAUTIFULLY to his meds (sure, he still has a few episodes, but not real bad) and wonder why that can't be MY son! Then I feel badly for being jealous. Now I just feel like a horrible person for wanting to give up!

Re: So Frustrating

I wish I could give you a hug! Squeeze yourself for me, kay? I know how you are feeling, (I felt that way with the rash), but don't give up. I would place a call to your doc again. I think a change of medication just may help (Prevacid, etc) OR you may just have to tell yourself he has colic, and unfortuantely until he is 3 months gestation, he will do this. I really hope that a change in meds will help him. If not (and I am serious, as I had Colic for 3 solid months for my mom--who was only 19! And she did this) buy earplugs. At least for sleeping at night (if it is bothering him then). You need to sleep and rest to or you are no good to him. I will keep you in my prayers (you are often in my thoughts!) and pray that this gets better SOON!

Re: So Frustrating

I thought about calling his doc, but I have to be SURE that he's not going to start getting better again before I call. Does that make sense? Just make sure it's not a temporary slump. I agree, I think something else may work better. I'd accept that it's colic except that the medicine DOES work, it just works for such a minimal amount of time before he starts getting worse again. If it weren't reflux then it wouldn't make any dif, right? Thanks for the hugs. I am fortunate that even through all of this he's still sleeping well. I guess the fact that DH had to leave again Monday doesn't really help. At least then I had someone HERE to talk to . Anyway, I'm glad someone knows what I'm dealing with.
(I tried to convince my mom that she wants a sleepover w/ him. She didn't believe me, LOL)

Re: So Frustrating

Hi there.
I feel your pain. My daughter seemed to cry constantly for her first 10 weeks of life and I felt so hopeless, it's hard to see your baby cry! Anyway, for me it was eggs in my diet (I was breastfeeding) and the eggs in my diet were causing her to have terrible gas. I had taken out other things in my diet that the doctor said could be culprits like milk, broccoli and other vegies like but that didn't seem to help. I love eggs and I was eating them pretty consistently for breakfast since I was stearing clear of milk. As soon as I quit eating them (a few days later) she was fine. Whew! But it was an exhausting ride until then. Hang in there, my daughter is the exact opposite now, very happy, not very fussy. An So, you'll get there! Take care!

Re: So Frustrating

I hate to say it, but some babies are just kinda like this. DD was for her first 8 weeks atleast. She is a reflux baby, and her meds help keep it controlled, but there are STILL good days and bad days, and we are five months into it.I personally don't think ANY of the meds make it completely better. My daughter will have a few great days, and then one HORRIBLE day for no apparent reason.

It is really hard to come to terms with it, but just realizing that it may not be JUST pain that he is crying from, it may be that he is just a baby with a bit of colic. Or it could be a bit of both. Remember that you are not doing anything wrong, you are trying everything possible to keep it under control. From there, you just have to ride it out. I would agree that he needed a change in meds IF they weren't working for a couple of days. I think if the meds weren't strong enough or the right kind then you would see no improvement what-so-ever. It sounds like he is getting the meds, but he may have just a touch of colic. You are not alone in this!

Also, I don't know how old your DS is, but babies hit a really hard point at 6 weeks, and it is sort of downhill from there. Things will get better. You just have to enjoy every second that is good, and pray every second that it is bad.

I know what you are going through, and it can be really rough. Watch yourself for signs of PPD if you start to feel depressed, and know that it will get better with time.
