PLEASE tell me this is a stage! - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

I have two issues I am wondering about - the first is napping -

My son is 11 months and is normally so easy to put down for a nap. I would give him his pacifier, rock him for a minute, and place him in his crib.

For the past week, he is throwing fits when it comes to nap time. He gets tired and whiny. I take him upstairs, turn on his CD, draw the blinds, and when I sit to rock him with his pacifier, he starts sobbing and throwing a fit. I will let him fight me for some time, before I get frustrated and put him in the car for a quick ride. He is usually asleep before we even get a mile down the road - SO he IS tired.

Night time is fine - it is just naps this past week.

He still isn't sleeping late into the morning so he still needs his morning nap.

SECOND - the whining and hanging on my legs! I might be doing dishes in the kitchen or sitting on the couch with the laptop, and DS will just hang on me and will not stop whining. He might play for a little bit on his own, but then he just wants my attention. Ugh! It is enough to drive me crazy. Some days I feel like I can't catch a break.

Please tell me this is just something that babies go through?

He is discovering that he isn't a "baby" anymore and that he is his own person. From birth, babies think they are a part of you...so that is what it sounds like he is discovering, and yes he will stop. I cannot tell you how long, but he will. OR...he may be cutting his first year molars?? You may want to check that. My DD was HORRIBLE when she cut those and was constantly attached to my hip. Either of these could contribute to his not wanting to nap as well. Either way, this will end for you. Good luck! Hope this helps you out!

I agree, this will pass. I went through this with my now almost 16 month old daughter and it actually passed pretty quickly for her. It is that he is discovering he is his own person. It could be molars too or a combination! Anyway, just know that it will pass just like so many other stages they go through. Just keep with the consistent routine you have. good luck.
