Doctor told me stop feeding DS

Hi everyone.
My DS is 9 weeks old and is 14.6 lbs and 61cm long. He is a big boy but doesn't look fat. When I went to see my doctor last week he told me I should not feed my DS as much because he weighs alot. I am breastfeeding by the way. But 1 month earlier he told me that you cannot overfeed a breastfed baby and to keep it up. But now he says he eats too much and to give him water in place of food. But I just don't agree. He eats about every 3-4 hour and sleeps a straight 7 hours at night without eating. Isn't that normal? I don't want to give him water yet. I think he is still too young for it. I mean all babies are chunky but mine is growing all around and I don't think he is too big. A little heavy yes but not to fat. I just don't agree that I should not feed him as much. Sometimes he just goes on the boob to fall asleep, he is not really hungry. I think you should feed on demand. I don't know what do you ladies think? Should I feed him less like the doctor said or continue to feed him on demand like I am doing? Thanks for the input. Sherri

I think you should find a new doctor! Water in place of food for a 9 week old? No way! Your breastmilk has all your baby needs. Nurse on demand. You are doing just what you should be doing. Great job Momma!

That is crazy. Keep feeding that baby on demand. Breastfed babies cannot eat too much. My baby at 9 months eats every 2-3 hours around the clock! Also your baby shouldn't be drinking water, let alone drinking it in replace of food. Your babies weight is fine, some babies are little some babies are big...it doesn't matter as long as they are healthy. Good luck with this, get another ped if it makes you more comfortable.

I agree, you need to find a new dr. Giving a 9 week old water is CRAZY! Feed him when he wants to eat. I'm in shock that a dr. would tell you that. Total shock. A baby that young isn't going to over eat unless you're absolutely forcing him to drink. I say just get a new dr.
