Dangerous Bottles? HELP!!!

Okay...at the docs office, I picked up a Parenting Magazine. I was flipping through it when I found an article about Polycarbonate baby bottles. Apparently they contain BPA's and other dangerous toxins that can leak into your baby. First, they say not to dishwash them (I do this ALL the time!) and then it says not to microwave/heat up formula/BM in the bottles! I do this too! So, I am totally worried. I didn't worry about this with DD, b/c I was using the nursers (apparently safe) and then switched to Parent's Choice cheap bottles when she was older. They claim that latex is worse than silicone...and here are the following bottles they say have these toxins: Playtex Ventaire (what I am using!!), Dr. Browns, Evenflo (clear), Avent and Gerber (clear). These are MAJOR brands of bottles! I don't know if I should switch to something else? The Born Free and Adiri bottles are 100% safe. BUT they are like BIG MONEY!!! Shoule I just call Playtex? Switch back to nursers? I am so lost and confused! I just want my baby to be safe. They even question sippy cups as well! I use them for my DD ALL the time! Will our children ever be safe? Advice, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or someone who had this worry and found some info would be great to get your info. Thanks!

Re: Dangerous Bottles? HELP!!!

Okay...I tend to freak out for little/no reason. I got onto Playtex's site, and there was a statement from them about this whole mess. Apparently the study is done on lab rats, etc...these bottles are considered safe and approved by the FDA. I was going to say that MANY moms have used these kinds of bottles over the years, and their kids are just fine. I am sorry I babbled, but I want what is best for my kids!

Yah, I was thinking, I'm sure they didn't know about all this stuff when WE were babies and we're fine. I'm a worry wart too, but if I worry about EVERY little thing I hear, I'm not going to have time to enjoy my baby while he's, well, a baby. I do think I'll stop being lazy about warming the formula and go back to a bowl of warm water. I've been microwaving it for a couple weeks, but no big. I do dishwash them, but maybe I'll handwash them now too. I used to handwash, but got lazy there too. I'm not going to switch brands though, DS's reflux is worse with other brands, heh.

Re: Dangerous Bottles? HELP!!!

Yeah! Hunter does really well on the Ventaires, even better than the nursers. I could easily go back to them (even though I sold mine), but I really like the ventaires. I shouldn't be lazy and dishwash and mic either, but with a 3 year old also demanding my attention, come on! LOL! Plus I think that the "damage" is already done just by doing it once, so we are already over that bridge anyway.

Re: Dangerous Bottles? HELP!!!

my dad recently passed away from cancer. since he'd been diagnosed last year, it seems like suddenly EVERYONE has cancer! it does make you wonder what it is that we are putting into our bodies! all of our daily use products seem to be filled with those same toxins and carcinogens that lead to cancer and other major diseases! it's all FDA approved as being "safe" to use, but what does that mean? don't those "safe" doses of toxins start to add up? my shampoo has a "safe" amount of carcinogen X in it... well, so does my conditioner, my hair gel, my hairspray, my toothpaste, my mouthwash, my deodorant, my bathroom cleaner, my air freshener.... etc.... so what is the FDA's definition of safe? is it considered safe as long as that is the only product you're using with carcinogen X in it? or is carcinogen X considered safe even in larger amounts? does that make sense?

my point is, i don't trust the FDA, and i'm getting new bottles! or maybe i'll just quit bottles and use sippy cups from now on.... did that article mention sippy cups??? i'm not some paranoid conspiracy theorist, i just kind of think that even though they probably do some pretty extensive testing and studies on lab rats, it's no guarantee that people are going to react the same way, you know?
