pump of choice!? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

i have a friend who is about to be a first time mom, she has decided to breast feed but if shes anything like i was(which we're alot alike!) she'll probably not do so well at breast feeding and want to give up. i breast fed for the first two weeks then i pumped and fed for the first two and a half months and i was done! it just didnt agree with me. anyways...what i'm wondering is what is the best pump in your opinion?? i used someone elses, evenflo something, it worked pretty good but was exspensive so i heard..which is why i borrowed one. so please please give me some suggestions! thanks!

I had a Medela Pump-in-Style for the first three months, but it was too slow for me. I rented a hospital grade pump from the hospital and it works MUCH BETTER!! It called the Medela Lactina. I highly recommend just renting something. You'll stick with it longer if you do.

I used both a hospital grade Medela (while DS was in the hospital) and after he was able to come home, I purchased a Medela Pump In Style. I feel like they both worked equally well and by purchasing, I have it for all future children. It's a double electric pump, so I could pump for 15 minutes and empty both breasts. If DS had been growing better I'd still be pumping, but he just wasn't doing well until we switched him to formula. So, I highly recommend this one, if she has it in the budget. I got mine on base for $220, but they're around $240 at Babies R Us.

I have an Ameda Purely Yours and It works really well for me. Its a little pricey but I like it.

I was also given a Medela Harmony manual pump at the hospital. Its not as efficient as the electric pump but its comfortable and it gets the job done.

ok so the pump at the hospitals work pretty well? even though they are hand pumps usually
