i can't think of any real reason to get rid of the bottle so young.... i think kids are forced to grow up way too fast these days, and it all starts at home. there is nothing wrong with letting your baby hang on to the bottle while they are babies! as far as being able to take it away later, and how attached they are to it.... well, i have issues about that. who's the parent? i bought my girls new cups, told them this was their fun new milk cup and that their bottles went all gone. they weren't thrilled to not have bottles, but then they realized they didn't have a choice.... if they wanted milk, it was going to be in a cup, and they decided to be okay with it.
sorry, went off on a tangent.... point is, if you want to take the bottle away, it's your choice, but don't feel pressured like you HAVE to do it. if you want your little one to be a baby a little while longer, let him!
oh, one thing that makes me more pro-bottle.... when my girls were teething, they preferred juice in a bottle instead of a cup.... i think it just felt better on their gums....
