My son is almost a year, and still eating mostly pureed baby food!! He sometimes eats bread, cookies, or cheese, but 95% of his diet is pureed foods. I offer him a wide variety of easily chewed meals but after he refuses it I break down and give him the jars. Anu suggestions? Is this normal?
Hey, I am the girl who started the thread about my 9 month old only eating pureed foods. Well, recently, we had a break through! I am sure you have tried this, but I thought I would pass it on.
I started leaving lots of chunks in the pureed foods. I would even add chunks of food if necessary. Also, I started offering her a wide variety of finger foods, particularly those she likes pureed. At first she would only eat 2-3 bites, but now she is totally loving finger foods!
I am sure you tried that. But I also wanted to encourage you, as my DH says, "It's not like there are a bunch of 10 year olds who only know how to eat baby food, eventually, when they are ready, they all eat table food." Whether it is this month, or next, your baby WILL eat table food!
My ds is totally opposite from mjbrandon's--if he can pick it up and put it in his mouth, he will, but if it's off a spoon, he gags! I guess since all he's really had off a spoon is totally pureed that's what he's expecting, but I sure wish he would get over it... He's now almost 10 mo.
Anyway, I don't really have any suggestions except to hang in there, and eventually he'll learn to like "real" food!
I think it is okay, my daughter was about 15 months before I really started to feed her table food. I always worried about choking and she didn't have a lot of teeth to chew anyways, so we did the pureed food for a while. I still give it to her at meals, usually her fruit. She will be 2 next month in April.
