Does it sound like I should start potty training?

I've been online and read a few things about starting potty training, but I'm still undecided if my dd is ready. First of all, she is young for it. She is only 15 months.
However, she tells me when she has a poopy diaper (after, not before though), likes to watch me go, and she flushes the toilet and puts the lid down all the time. She also take the toilet paper and puts in the toilet before flushing. She's clearly interested, but I don't know if introducing a potty now would be appropriate.
I read that if you start too early (when the child isn't ready) it can actually take longer in the end for them to get trained.
Any thoughts??

Re: Does it sound like I should start potty training?

My experience up to this point has been with boys, but I would say to give it a bit longer. All my kids didn't finish training until they turned 3. I never pushed it, but did encourage it when they were in their 2's. My niece started early, like your little girl, and regressed. It took her a lot longer if you add on all the months of starting over. Good luck and keep her interested!

Re: Does it sound like I should start potty training?

HI

My son is 20 months and is doing the exact same thing for like a month now. I finally got him a simple little potty. I opted to not get the sound effects kind because I don't want him to play with it. I sat him on it before his bath with a cup of juice. He sat there drinking and we sang a few songs. Usually when he drinks he goes right after so I was hoping this would happen by accident and he could make the connection. he sat there like 5 minutes and finally got up and while he stood next to the tub as it was filling, he peed all over the floor. so maybe next time! Also, I can tell when he's about to poop but I have to be quick enough to whisk him into the bathroom, without scaring him too much!

Potty training is something I have been dreading but my son does show interest. I am not sure exactly how to go about it, but he does seem to like his potty and I let him sit on it with his clothes on whenever he is in there with me while I'm going, and he grabs his crotch and says poopoo? poopoo? so I think he does know what its for but as far as getting him to go in it we will have to see.

let us know if you have any luck and also interested to hear from others on how they got potty training going.

Re: Does it sound like I should start potty training?

i bought my dd a potty(and an activity table so that she would stay seated) when she turned one cuz i could tell almost all of the time when she needed to poop. whenever she needed to poop i would put her on her potty. my sole purpose was to save her(and me, lol) from poopy diapers and it worked. she is now used to sitting on her potty. in the process(months later), she learnt that she could also pee in it, so now i put her on it every morning when she wakes and we save another diaper! at 17 months, she is not toilet trained and i don't expect her to be but we're half way there . the benefit for us is that she knows what the potty is for and will try to go when i put her on it. the bonus is i've saved some diapers and no longer need wipes. i'm also glad that she no longer has to have poop squished against her precious skin.

i don't think it would hurt to start training now at 15 mos., especially if she is interested. i just wouldn't expect her to be 'fully' trained at such a young age.

Re: Does it sound like I should start potty training?

Thanks for the responses... I think I'll get a little potty and show her what it's for, but have no expectations that she'll "get it" or be able to physical tell before she has to go.
If she get's it a little great, but no pressure I suppose.
Thanks!
