Does everyone worry this much?

I just feel like there are so many things lately coming up in the news that are making me worry about my daugther. She will be 10 months old on the second. My dad has already convinced me and paid for me to switch to glass bottles. My best friend has a little girl who is just four days older and she is asking me about the vaccinations at a year old and whether I will be doing them or not due to the worries of Autism. It's nerve wracking having all this stuff coming out that makes you worry about the well being of your child and if you are doing the right things or not. I mean, I don't know, I feel like I should trust her pedi and do what he thinks is best, but gosh, you never know...people are wrong and make mistakes sometimes. I don't want to turn in to this big worry wort and constantly worry about doing something that might end up some day harming her without knowing it first. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Re: Does everyone worry this much?

I havent stopped worrying since the moment I found out I was pregnant. I think it would get better once she was here, but my fears have only gotten worst. Im going to go ouit and buy the glass bottles today, but the fear that I cant get out of my head is SIDS =( I read an article about it and now I cant get it out of my head.

Re: Does everyone worry this much?

there are plastic bottles and cups that are safe to use.... at least so far..... the thing i have trouble with, is if the plastics are so incredibly dangerous, why are they still selling them??? and why are the alternatives so incredibly expensive??? i would think that if the plastics are so harmful to our babies, then they'd make the alternative solutions easily available to everyone, not just people who can afford it!!!!!

i worry about it all the time, but if you can't afford the alternative, what do you do?????

Re: Does everyone worry this much?

It's hysterical fear-mongering, and the mainstream media love to push it simply because it gives them a (non-)story and a way to potentially beat on industries they hate.

How did we ever survive? Think about it. Heck, I survived not only being free in the front seat on my mom's lap, but I even survived riding in open beds of pick-up trucks! Never mind sleeping on my belly, having mostly formula, having all the vaccines available and no special gimmicks to keep me from "harming myself" except my mother's watchfulness and her discipline.

BTW, my dog has had lots of vaccines, and nothing is wrong with her that wasn't there in the 1st place.

The chances of things happening from the various latest crazes (fears) are generally almost nil. And on top of it, they change their minds every few years.

Do you know now that crib bumpers are NOT recommended? That's the very latest. It hasn't sunk in yet so they're still largely pushed, but in a few years, that will be the new craze - don't dare put bumpers on your crib.

Relax. Try not to put yourself OR your child in a strait-jacket.

Re: Does everyone worry this much?

Hi Delia!

I completely understand where you're coming from. On top of worrying about doing the best thing for your child you often have to deal with the consequence of others thinking it's not the right thing. My Ella is on a delayed vaccination schedule and you wouldn't believe the things people say to me (whether or not they know about my husband's and my decision about vacinnations for our daughter) about how "awful parents are who don't vaccinate...yada yada yada." It's fearful and worrying! I believe that waiting to vaccinate is the best idea for MY CHILD...but I still worry about her getting the measels or other things...it's a catch-22.

I believe the best thing you can do is research, follow your gut, and trust yourself. You and your husband love your daughter and you do what you think is best. I agree with everyone and the bottles...and like others have said, unfortuantly I do not have the finances available to go to the alternative.

It is very worrying, and I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm a worry-wort by nature and I knew I'd be that way when I had a baby. I do my best to relax and know that I am doing the best job I can with my daughter...and I'm sure you are too!!!

Sarah
