Do you allow your babies to sleep on their tummies

Jeremy s now nearly 13 weeks old and just loves sleeping on his tummy. Every time i turn him around on his back he wakes up.
If he doesn t nap he ll be fussy all day. I really don t feel comfortable about it though don t know what to do.
AT night he sleeps from 9pm to 9am with 2 or 3 feeds in between if he s in our bed he sleeps well on his back though as soon as i put him in his crib he wakes up....unless i put him on his tummy.

IF he is lifting his head well, then I would be ok with him sleeping on his tummy. You can still set your alarm to get up and check on him every few hours, if you think he will sleep longer and not wake for feeds.

Re: Do you allow your babies to sleep on their tummies

My oldest (of 4) is now 5. I was a nervous nelly, and was always worried about SIDS, so I made sure they always slept on thier backs. I wouldn't let them sleep in between my wife and I at all until they were toddlers for fear I would roll over on them as I'm a restless sleeper. Just my thoughts...

Re: Do you allow your babies to sleep on their tummies

I had a thread where this subject sort of came up. I keep trying to put George on his back (actually, it's easier for me the holder to do), but I think he doesn't like it just like yours.

He doesn't mind too much in our bed. Or on the couch.

He VERY much minds it in the bassinets/crib.

I think they both hate the back position AND the hard cold surfaces also mandated by the safety freaks. (Note the difference between the "proper" baby furniture and your furniture.)

George will also wake up quickly when placed in the hard thin bassinets. Sometimes right away, sometimes within 5 min after he wriggles in discomfort (on his back). He sounds alot like your baby.

I've compromised by putting blankets in to cushion it more, but it depends on the blanket and he still doesn't like the back and probably, missing warm bodies who hold him.

Re: Do you allow your babies to sleep on their tummies

both my daughters (3 and 1) slept on their stomach from day 1. they just slept better that way. anytime i tried to put them on their backs they would squirm. this whole back-to-sleep concept is fairly new and doesn't guarantee against sids.
