What bottle is best for gassy baby? - Infant Care (up to 18 months old) Message Board

New mom here. My mom informed me that she thinks my 6 week old is taking in too much air when she drinks from the Playtex Ventaire Wide bottles. She is a gassy baby and often stops drinking to scream and then pass gas. Then she's happy to keep drinking. I have placed an order for Dr. Brown's bottles (I ordered the wide ones) but have not received them yet. Now I hear that the Avent bottles are best. What do you guys think? TIA.

Dr Browns (skinny neck) worked great for my little one. She is as gassy as they come and Dr Browns worked really well for her. Only problem, they are no BPA free. Now that I need to move from 4 oz to a larger size I am going to go BPA free and now Im considering drop ins. I would be interested to hear any thoughts on gas and playtex drop ins as well.

Hey girls,

I totally recommend the Playtex Drop-Ins. I've been using them with my ds for a year now, and we've never had any problems. I did buy the ventaire's when he was about 3 mo, just because I needed extra bottles, and I wanted to try them out. I found with those that he spit up at almost every feeding, which was out of the ordinary, so I decided to just get more of the drop-ins. As a bonus, now they make the 8 oz. liners expandable to 10 oz. which is working great for us now that ds is drinking more at a time. And they are bpa free. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I considered the drop-ins but noticed the price of the liners. They seem expensive (Playtex Brand). Do you use a generic or store brand? If so, which ones and how much are they? Thanks again!

Oh and I heard that as long as you don't heat the bottle, the BPA isn't released. Does anyone know if this is true?

Dr. Browns makes a glass bottle. That is what I switched to in light of BPA situation. Not cheap, but peace of mind rarely is.

I can't remember if its Evenflo or Gerber that makes old-school soft plastic that does not contain the BPA. One of those two fits with the Dr. Brown's inserts. THat is what we use for outings so we don't have to tote the glass all over the place. They are really cheap, too. Like 2 or 3 bucks for 3 bottles.
