Cutting molars before other teeth???

My daughter will be turning one next week. She has her two front bottom teeth, and her four front ones on the top. Well yesterday I realized that she has a molar poking through on the bottom right hand side. Is this weird? I told my mom about it and she acted as though it was strange and that I may need to mention it to Ella's pedi. This child is soooo wonderful about cutting teeth, so much so, that I never even realize they are there until I happen across it myself. I really didn't think too much of it but then my mom and my MIL both thought she was awfully young to be getting molars, especially since the surrounding front teeth aren't all in yet.

Re: Cutting molars before other teeth???

The same exact thing happened to my daughter. She had 2 on the bottom and four on top at her 1st birthday and about 3 weeks later, she cut 2 bottom molars and a 3rd bottom tooth all at the same time!! Then, a couple weeks after that, she cut her two top molars. She still has yet to get a 4th bottom tooth or any inbetween but has all 4 molars at 14 months old!! I thought it was early too, but my nephew had ALL his teeth before he was a year old...that is in comparison to my neice who has 1 tooth and will be a year old tomorrow! I guess you never know!!

Ok good, so it doesn't sound out of the ordinary then. I was just making sure it wasn't something we needed to be concerned with or bring to her pedi's attention. She is just such a champ about teething, she could have 20 teeth and unless I pried her mouth open to take a look, I'd never know it!!!

Re: Cutting molars before other teeth???

Hey Delia,

My Ella already has a molar too, and is cutting 2 others. She has 4 upper teeth and 4 lower teeth. She got her molar in about 3-4 weeks ago...I noticed her pulling on her ears and I made an appointment for her to go to the dr the next day to have her ears checked...then I noticed the next day she wasn't pulling on it at all, but that she was chewing on everything, I stuck my finger back there and sure enough it had just barely popped through. She's pretty miserable, Ella's not usually too bad with teeth, but these molars are rough going!!

Good luck!

It is completely normal to teeth in, what some would perceive as, an abnormal pattern. My son always teethed in a pattern that wasn't normal and I actually did mention it so his pedi but she reassured me that it is completely normal.

I think your DD is fine, but do keep an eye on it. Those bottom teeth will most likely be popping up soon.
