Hm, I've never heard no dairy under a year. They're not supposed be switched from formula or breast milk to whole milk until a minimum of 9 months (preferably not until a year, though), but I think once they start to eat solid foods, yogurt should be fine. Cheese is also recommended once they begin eating finger foods.
I have heard of the yogurt you're talking about, I think it's called "yo baby", and I think a lot of parents like it because of the portions that they give you. It's easy to just pull out of the fridge, open the container and feed to baby. I'm not sure if there are any other benefits to giving baby that kind over any other kind of yogurt. My son has a milk allergy (which I believe he's outgrowing), so we don't give him yogurt yet but if I did, I would just feed him whatever we eat.
