Mercury vaporizes easily at room temperature and in this state, is odorless, colorless and tasteless. Inhaled mercury vapor is readily absorbed into the bloodstream. No amount of mercury vapor can be considered harmless, especially considering its cumulative effect. It is also more toxic than lead, cadium and arsenic. Silver amalgam fillings are 50% mercury. Mercury is mercury and if these fillings were not dangerous; then when having them removed you wouldn't have to worry about wearing a rubber dam, use a vaccum and ventilation system, everyone wearing masks due to the mercury vapor being released, having the patients hair, clothing and face covered suring the removal. You are only able to remove 1-2 fillings at a time due to the negative effects on the body, and usually the patient needs to take vitamins and minerals. People have had permanant damage done to their bodies due to dentists improperly removing these fillings. These fillings whem removed are then disposed of in hazardous waste containers. Other countries have banned the use of amalgams. My suggestion is to stear clear of these fillings for such a small baby/toddler, it is not worth the risk that these can pose. Biological and holistic dentistry is picking up because people are realizing the dangers. These are all mere facts, not scare tactics and my main concern is for the children. Because I take nothing at face value and do all of my own extensive research and thinking, I have decided that if my toddler ever gets cavities in the future at any age, she will not get composite or silver amalgam fillings due to the chemicals that leach. I figure you are investing in their health this way!
