sleep help for my 14 month old son

Please, if anyone knows how to get a 14 month old to sleep in their crib I'm open for advice. The only problem with letting him 'cry it out' like so may tell me is that he will escalate to the point of making himself throw up. So, now what? I need some zzzzzzzzzzz's and I need to get my son out of my bed into his own crib at night. During the day he will nap in his own crib, it's just the night time. Please help! Has anyone ever ordered the materials from sleep coach? Does it help?

Re: sleep help for my 14 month old son

I have never heard of sleep coach so I have no advice there. I was going to say you might have to try to let him work it out himself. But if you know that it will just make it worse, maybe you could try going in small steps. Like at first put a matress on the floor next to his crib and you sleep next to him but he's in his crib. Then keep moving further away every couple of nights until you're out of the room. I am not sure how well that would work but I guess it couldn't hurt to try. Other than that I don't know, my 15 month old has been in his own bed since 9 weeks. He has slept with me on rare occassions like last month when we both had a horrible flu and it was either let him sleep with me or neither of us slept. But I will only ever do it for 1 night then it's back in the crib. I don't want to develop a habit of sleeping with me. Once in a while I don't see the harm in letting him snuggle up with Mommy.
Good luck!

Re: sleep help for my 14 month old son

My 13.5 month old DD co-sleeps with me, and when we are ready to move her out of our bed, we plan on skipping the crib all together, and getting her a youth bed. For awhile we will put it in our room next to our bed, and then as she becomes comfortable with that, we will move her into her own room.

Re: sleep help for my 14 month old son

Hi There , we had our 13mth old in our bed for the first couple of months (i kept worrying about him choking in his sleep !) , then we moved him in to a moses basket beside our bed until around 6 months , then we moved him into his own room in the crib , during this whole time he would sleep in his crib for naptime . At the beginning , what i would do is around 8pm , I would bring him up on to the couch with me and lie him down on his blankie on the couch while we watched some tv (In the night garden !,great show!) he would usually dose off and then i would put him in his crib . That is kind of still the same , of course now he is running around , i pick him up at and sit him on my lap and tell him "ok its sleepytime " and he starts to wind down while we watch some tv , then when hes totally calm i take him in and lie him in the crib and just stand there , with his wee nightlight on , and shush him for around 5-10 mins until he drops off . Ive yet to get to the point where i can put him in and walk away , but as it stands just now , i really dont mind being there for that short time , maybe gently reading him a story or singing a song till he drops off . I find that just me being there makes him calm and i dont have to do the 'crying it out ' thing .
So , maybe that could help , if you help him wind down in the living room with you till he's sleepy ,then take him thru and be with him till he goes down . ? I had all the same problems with each stage too , but i find if you are consistant with something it usually sticks , and this has stuck for us . Hope this helps , and you can get some sleepy time yourself !!!
