Question A ten month olds eating schedule.

I have a couple of questions. I have a 10 month old little boy and I am wondering what other ten month olds eating schedules are like and what they are eating. My little boys goes like this:

8:00 am Breakfast which is baby oatmeal and some baby food fruit mixed in

10:00 am a bottle of some kind weather it is milk or juice and that is when he goes down for a nap and I know I need to stop this bottle or he will have rotten teeth. (any Ideas?? he has one still in the middle of the night also)

1:00 pm Lunch which is baby rice and baby veggies and a chicken dinner or some kind of dinner.

2:00 pm a bottle of some kind like above for nap.

5:00 pm a bottle of milk

7:00 pm dinner which is oatmeal and fruit mixed in like for breakfast.

I want to give him more adult food but and my Dr. said its ok to venture out now but I just dont know what to feed him so Im wondering what others do or have done.... any answers will be awesome. Im a first time mommy.

Thank you in advance.

Re: A ten month olds eating schedule.

I personally wouldn't worry about the bottles affecting his teeth just yet. He is still a baby. My 14 month old still has a bottle for her nap, a bottle before bed at night, and 1-2 in the middle of the night (although last night she actually slept through, praise God!).
With that said, You might try trading the 5pm bottle for a snack. I only let my DD have bottles anymore when it is nap or bed time. There are lots of things I'm sure he is ready to eat. My DD was pretty much eating what we eat by that age. Try pasta: spagetti cut into small pieces or macaroni and cheese. Bananas, any type of canned fruit or veggies (pears, peaches, green beans, mixed viggies) because they are soft. DD also likes lunch meat, any type of potatos, and kashi bars (make sure there are no nuts). Gerber makes a wide variety of snack finger foods. We buy the fruit bites (freeze dried fruit snack), biter biscuits (disolve in the mouth), and fruit puffs (also dissolve in the mouth). Another good first finger food is dried cereal, like cheerios or chex.
It is really fun introducing big kid food!

Re: A ten month olds eating schedule.

Hi heathergirl ~ My dd is 15 months old and when she was that age, we started her on some "light" table foods. She was able to eat some soups, pudding, yogurt, jello, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese sandwiches, spaghetti, and we blended a lot of our own foods for her.
We also still give her the jarred stage 3 Gerber food to supplement some veggies and fruits because sometimes it is just easier. She also still eats the Gerber single grain oatmeal mixed with milk (because she's off formula) for breakfast and we mix it with a jarred fruit.
I too wanted to get her off of the baby food for money reasons, but sometimes it's just easier. Also, she didn't have any molars at the time, so it made chewing way too difficult.
Hope this helps. It's fun to experiment with table foods, but we played it safe and stuck to jarred foods for a while.

Re: A ten month olds eating schedule.

I wouldn't feel bad about the bottles either. You know he is getting all his nutrients from his formula. That should make you feel good when you start intoducing table food. Sometimes they don't eat much when you first start them. (at least you feel that way) My dd is 10 months too. She has never eaten baby food. She hated it from day one. She would gag and act like she was going to throw up. So she has eaten off the table since around 6-7 months. My doctor says i can give her anything we eat except wait on fish or spicey food. She has a morning bottle, breakfast(loves butter toast), another bottle 2hrs. later for morning nap. Has lunch around 12.(lunch meat, cheese, green beans, fruit....) Has a 6 ounce bottle for nap at 2. Sleeps 2 hours. Then I give her a snack.(there are wonderful snacks out there for babies) She has dinner at 6.(noodles, baby yogurt(a must have!)soup, veggies, chicken...) Sometimes I sneak a 2 ounce bottle in to hold her over to 8:30. She gets bath, story and then a 6 ounce bottle. Now sleeping through the night is another thing. You never know.... she may wake up around 4 for a bottle or sleep through until 8.... And then the day starts all over. I would suggest to put the juice in a sippy cup. My older son had juice in a bottle... He had major dental work when he was 3 years old. I had to learn the hard way. Just a suggestion...... I'm afraid to even give juice to my dd. She gets water in her sippy cup with her meals! Just start to give him bites of food when you are eating... you will know by that what he will like or not. just keep trying! Don't give up! Good luck!!
