I am almost 16 weeks pregnant now and I have just been told that my baby has an enlarged, keyhole shaped bladder indicative of a lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO). The perinatologist said that my amniotic fluid level looks good, but we go back to reasses on Dec. 15th. He said that we'll be able to determine the severity of the blockage then and determine a course of action. Course of action could be anything from closely monitor to in utero shunt placement to recommended termination.
LEJ- I also have no experience with this, in fact I had to do a search because I had honestly never heard of it. You are in my thoughts and prayers! I will be watching for your posts here and on that May mommies board! Let us know how everything goes...I'm sure waiting for the next u/s is miserable!
Take care of yourself and that little baby!!
Sarah
Thanks for the reply! LUTO is a lower urinary tract obstruction. I was hoping to find other moms who are dealing with a high risk pregnancy of which the outcome is uncertain.
My thoughts are with you. I do not know where you live, so the only help I can offer is, do you live near a big city? How much experience does your ob/gyn have with this type of condition. He/she could possibly look to see who is this country may have experience with this type of condition or what doctor has experience doing intra utero surgery. Depending on what part of the country you live in, I am sure if it is the east coast than New York City or possibly Yale New Haven in CT or even here in Boston, (Brigham and Womens Hospital). I am not quite sure of the Midwest, however, I am sure some of the larger universities have hospitals affiliated with them who may be able to help you. Out in the West you have UCLA, Stanford or Loma Linda.
Sometimes you have to begin doing research yourself.
I will be thinking of you, please let us know how you and your child are doing.
I just found this information-location Tampa General Hospital, phone number 1-877-FETAL-77 or 813-259-8513. Their fax number is 813-259-0839 for your doctor to send your records. Check out the website felalmd.hsc.usf.edu. They have a whole team that does fetal complications.
