Ok, my 5 week old spent 4 hours intensely crying from 10pm until 2am, ug!!! I have tried the diluted apple juice with not so apparent results. Will the Karo Syrup just make my life easier instantly???? Haven't tried it yet.

If you know for sure your lo is constipated, the karo will usually work. However, you shouldn't use often cause you do not want them to become dependant on it to poop, but for a once in a while thing it should be fine. I do not remeber how much to put in. The only time I used it was when my lo was not tollerating his formula. Shortly after we switched him to a soy formula and he was fine. If you are nursing, I have no help, never nursed mine. Have you tried diluted prune juice?
Have you talked with the ped? Are you nursing? Usually nursing babies dont get constipated. I know my little guy gets really bad gas pains so I help him by pumping his legs, that really gets the gas and poop out. I also use Gripe Water. It has worked really well for him.

FYI: Apples are part of the BRAT diet, consisting of Bananas, Apples, Rice and Toast, these are easy on the tummy, but also help in returning to a normal BM after having diarrhea. Apples have pectin in them which can actually lead to constipation if they have too much! So if your little one is constipated, do not go with apple juice, or at least mix some prune juice in with the apple juice! Pears are the easiest and least allergenic of all fruits, so you could always try some pear juice instead.
I have never heard of Karo syrup for constipation. But I have given my little ones some prune juice mixed with water (half and half mixture) or an ounce in their usual bottle feeding. It usually works right away. Pumping the legs, holding them in a "crouched/catcher's postion" works too. Also holding the baby upright against my chest seems to help as gravity is at work too. My pedicatrician recommended some brown sugar in chamomile tea. The tea helps to calm the tummy and the sugar gets it moving.
