How many times has your child been sick this fall/winter?

My child has been sick soooooo many times this fall and winter. She is one year old now and we just got over another high fever and no other symptoms (doctor always says it's a virus). She had vomiting and diarrhea at 7 months and 11 months. Plus she's had numerous ear infections. I am starting to think it has to do with the daycare she is in and not necessarily her immune system. I'm running short on time off from work and it's only March. Not to mention it seems either my DH or I catch whatever she has. Depending on what I hear back from you guys, will help me decide if I should start looking for other daycare arrangements. Thanks in advance, Ally.

Re: How many times has your child been sick this fall/winter?

I would guess it is the daycare. My nephew goes to one (he's 20mo), and his doctor said that kids who go to daycare have colds on average 3 out of 4 weeks! That's a lot of colds. I don't know how accurate that information is, but anyway if there's anything that kids know how to share, it's their germs. My ds (22mo) has only been sick once this year, he had the flu back in October, but he stays home and only goes to a playgroup once a week.
Hope this helps a bit!

Re: How many times has your child been sick this fall/winter?

my LO is 13 months and now that I am back at work, she is going to a lady who cares for her at her home, she only watches my kid and hers who are now 9 and 16!!
She has had a few sniffles over the winter season but nothing much really. My eldest is in a preschool (which is nuts over hygene (Sp?) ) so she hasn't really had anything either...
my guess is the daycare..lots of little kids = lots of germs BUT it will mean that your LO will be immune to many cold bugs as s/he gets older probably..
I also try and get them outside for a time during the day to get fresh air...
and make sure that you are getting enough rest and vitamins!!

Re: How many times has your child been sick this fall/winter?

Did you mean vitamins for me or my DD? My DH and I take vitamins, but I would love to also be able to give her vitamins. Are there any for a one year old?
We are interviewing daycares now and hopefully move her to a more hygienic atmoshere soon. Now I dread telling my current daycare provider that we are leaving. Thanks for the help.
Ally

Re: How many times has your child been sick this fall/winter?

Hi
I meant are you (mom) taking vitamins...i don't think they are recommended for small children or babies.
With regards to hygiene at daycares I would look for one that proves it does the things they may say. But have you thought of a home daycare setting that may not have soo many people in and out I think thats why my LO is in pretty good shape once they get to around 2 yrs their immune system is stronger and more able to repel viruses..so my LO will go to a large daycare at around 2 yrs.
If you are going with a daycare I would try a small one if possible and see how long staff have been there etc check it out before giving up your current carers, does your LO like it there? is she comfortable? is a move going to upset her?
