My 13 Month Old talks all of the time. But no words. She is constantly jibber jabbering. It's cute. She used to say MaMa a lot and DaDa sometimes, but now she doesn't use them. She is very smart (in my opinion

). She knows most of the animals in the farm book. When we ask her where the pig is, she points to it, etc. She also points to people when I ask her, Where's Aunt Kristen? or Where's MomMom? If I ask her if she wants some juice, she will say uh-uh or um-hum for yes and no. So I know she's learning and developing, just wondering when the real words will start????

You'll be amazed at how quickly it will take place! My daughter will turn 2 this July (I cannot believe it!), and it seems like just overnight that she started talking. The really cool thing is that we can ask her to do things and she does them. For example, tonight I said, "Madeline, can you put your cup on the table, please?" And she did it.

Your daughter will most likely just respond more to commands now than actually "talk." My daughter picks up her vocabulary because we label everything. I'm guessing you do this as well. When she's studying something, we'll say the word for her until she tries to say it as well. We also enunciate everything so she hears it. I don't think people realize how quickly we talk sometimes! Because of this, her speech is amazing. No, I'm not "bragging;" she just talks a lot and I know it's contributed to this.

Right now, she's really into labeling things herself: "Mommy's pants, daddy's shoes", etc. It's funny to watch.

You're daughter will get it in NO time! You just wait...it really is so much fun to watch them grow and learn.

One more thing - have your considered sign language? We started this at 10 months with our daughter (we are not hearing impaired), and this also helps out quite a bit. Your daughter will be able to tell you what she wants while her language skills are still developing.

it's different with all babies.... my first was babbling from day one, started using words like mama, dada, baba, etc, around 7 months, knew what they meant by 9 months (plus had a whole string of other words), and by a year old was talking in sentences that i could understand (not that many other people could understand her, but her dad and her gma and i always could).....

my second hardly made a sound (except to scream her head off) until she was much older! she just didn't talk.... it worried me for a bit, but then one day, around 2-ish, maybe(?), she just started talking.... and now she won't shut up!

and now my third is 9 months old and she is a babbler, but not quite as much as my first, and not quite as clearly either. but she does have some very distinct words for certain things....

anyway..... that's my kids. all three are very different in their "milestones" as are all kids. don't stress, she'll start talking like crazy one day and you'll look back on these more quiet days with fierce longing!!!

and hey, take advantage of her babyhood while you can! it goes by so FAST!!!! don't get impatient for her to get too big too fast, because before you know it, she'll be getting ready to start kindergarten and you'll be wondering what the heck happened???!!!!??!?!!! (my first starts kindergarten this year and it's crazy how fast it's gone!!!)

Great question...I have been wondering the same thing.

My 14 month old said Mama around 9 months and then followed with Dada soon after, but now she just says Dada 90% of the time. Every once in ahile she will say Mama, but not often. We have gotten her to say Blue, Hi, Dog and NiteNite, so we know she can say them, but she hardly ever does.

She is constantly babbling, but still just those few real words.

My son s the same...mearly 16 months now......he used to say mama at 8 months...but stopped....he babbles all the time......
I know he understands alot of words.....and he understands most things i say to him.....when i ask him where s the ball...he goes to get it etc. however if i ask where s your nose...even though i know he knows where it is..he won t point.....i feel he s either shy , lacks confidence ......or is teasing me.....which he seems to love...lol.

The word he says most is didi....lol...when he sees his younger brother....don t know where he got this from..i guess baby...

I have decided not to worry...as long as they understand i am sure they ll do it when they are ready..and this does not happen at the same period for all kids.
