DD won't stop dropping her food!

DD #2 is almost 11 months old. We are limited right now on what we can feed her due to food allergies. Well, she will pick up and eat cheerios and puffs and pieces of a plain bagel. But she refuses anything and everything else I put in front of her. It's not like she has tried any of the bits of carrot or fruit I have put in front of her, it's almost like a reflex, she just throws it aside and has been doing this for months now! She also has reflux but seems to have gotten beyond the gagging reflex and does really well with chunks of food but she won't try anything at all. How am I supposed to feed her anything but baby food and cheerios? She's got to try new things! I did get a shower curtain liner and put it under her highchair but she still does it, just makes the mess easier to clean up. Any advice? I never dealt with this issue with my first daughter. Thanks.

Hi there,
I am not sure what to suggest to you because of her allergies. What is she allergic to?
You little one just may be use to the foods she has been eating, and does not want to try anything new. It also may be a fun little game to her to throw food down , when it is not what she is familiar with.
Perhaps mix a little new food into her baby food, and spoon feed her at first. See if she will eat it that way .
Finger foods are very good at this age. Yet again, I am unsure as to what she can and cannot eat. Pretent to eat the new food first, and make it a fun experience for her. Show her by example. And make it a big deal. How exciting and Yummy and new food is to eat

Re: DD won't stop dropping her food!

Thanks for your response. She is allergic to milk, eggs, soy, and nuts. She is on a special formula and can take all the stage food baby foods. We just have to keep her away from anything with the above in it the first year and the dr. said she has an 85% chance of outgrowing the allergies, will pray that she does. Her sister is not allergic to anything so we haven't dealt with this. Just goes to show you how 2 kids can be like night and day And I do pretend to eat the new foods and have her sister show her they are good and she eats them but it's like she just throws them without even trying no matter what. I want her to self feed her foods because I know she can. I will just keep giving them to her on a spoon occasionally or just maybe I should do it every feeding until she is really used to them. It's just frustrating because it's like if she doesn't recognize it she just tosses it without even investigating it.

Re: DD won't stop dropping her food!

I had to respond!
My LO is the same way I put her in her high chair and wait to get covered, Ihave tried every thing, just offering a little, bit offering a lot, spooning in her mouth, pretending to eat it myself, even dancing round the kitchen to get her to laugh so I can shove it in her mouth..lol
I would say 90% ends up on the floor.....I have even tried following her around spooning food in....she just smacks it out of my hand!!!

So my ped said don;t worry she won;t starve...she is probably getting most of what she needs from her milk..

I know my eldest was an angel compared to this one..Best wishes
