transitioning from bottle to sippy

Hello everyone, i was just wondering if anybody can give me any tips on switching my baby from formula in a bottle to a sippy... he is a pro at drinking juice from a sippy, but when i give him the formula in it, he doesnt drink as much as he should tho.. and i dont like just leaving him with a sippy full of formula for more than a few minutes because that just grosses me out... should i maybe cut back to like 4 ounces at a time and increase how often he has one? how much should he be drinking now?... guess it would help if you all new how old he is..lol he is ten months.. i really think it will be an easy transition, because i never let him lay down with a bottle, or fall asleep with one, i am just not sure how much to give him..so far i have only replace on bottle a day with a sippy, and like i said he doesnt drink but 4 ounces out of what is normally (with a bottle 8).. im hoping my question actually got explained in there and i didnt just confuse everyone! any suggestions help! thank you!

Re: transitioning from bottle to sippy

I wouldn't push it especially if he is only 10 months old. My twin boys wouldn't even drink out of a sippy until age 11 1/2 months. Also, when I did switch them, they wouldn't drink formula out of the sippy only whole milk. I think sometimes they associate formula with the bottle and it doesn't make sense to them that it is in a sippy cup. I wouldn't worry about it. You know that he will drink from a sippy, so that is one battle down. I would just wait until closer to 1 yr and then slowly switch him to the whole milk. Starting at 11 months you can start mixing formula and whole milk. At 11 months I started giving my boys a sippy with about 2 oz of whole milk in it each day. It took a week before they would even drink from it, but then at 11 1/2 months I went cold turkey and they havent missed the bottle or formula since. Hope this helps!!!

My DD was the same way. I bough Nuby cups with the soft nipple on them from walmart and she took to them well. I used them for milk and the harder cups for juice. I did that up until she figured out that she could turn the Nuby over, bang it on any surface (including her own body) and milk would spray out. This was great fun. Good luck!
