Question toddler refusing to eat

my grandson who is 17mths old is underweight. He is on vitamins, but he simply refuses to eat some foods/meals. The dr wants him to pick up some weight. I keep him and I am trying a variety of foods, but most of the time it is pasta or fruit that I can get him to eat.

suggestions for getting him to eat a variety and to definitely eat more???
