Concerned about growth of my son

my 9 month old son was at 75 percentile in length at birth.he was going well till he was 6 months.he has always remained under weight.but what worried me more was that besides weight he suddenly stopped growing in length.his pediatrician associated it with vitamin d and iron deficiency.he gave him multivitamins. now he falls in 25th percentile.i want to know if he will always remain in 25th percentile in length or he can regain his lost position on the charts.i'm really worried and need expert opinion.

Re: Concerned about growth of my son

Hi Faree:

I'm no expert, but I've had kids is all. Kids typically go through growth spurts in their lives, then stop growing for awhile. My son was a big baby til he was 4 months old, then he got sick with a bad bacteria. After that, he didn't grow well for a long time. All you can do is keep their immune system strong, keep them away from sick individuals. Feed them healthy, not just fattening foods. There are some good fats, such as in avocados. Beans are a good source of iron. Also sunshine is a good source of Vitamin D. Try not to worry so much about the numbers on the charts and just feed him what is good for him to eat. Also, you can feed him small amounts several times a day, that's better for his digestive system.
Best wishes, K.

Re: Concerned about growth of my son

My daughter went through this. She was a premie so she has always been tiny. But grew like she was supposed to. And then about 5 mo old just stopped. No gaining weight, people often looked at me as if I was starving my child. I had her checked but nothing seemed to be wrong. I know that your case is a little different as there is a deficiency. But she is now 10 years old. She grew in spurts. It wasnt gradual it would be quick and then nothing again. She is still very thin but her height is right on target. I still get looks because she is sooo thin. But she eats like a grown man sometimes. I wouldnt worry too much. Just continue to follow dr and with check ups.
