 Strep infection in spine
hi,I am looking for help everywhere I can.In December my husband became very ill. he was hospitalized,and they found a strep infection in his blood.They did many tests to locate try and locate where it came from but had no luck. After a week he was discharged and had to have 6 weeks of IV antibiotics. He started to feel better,but in January he started to have intense back pain which radiated down his legs.After many doctor visits and MRI's,it was decided that the infection had localized in his spine. Spinal damage is unbelievable. We even went to the University of Pennsylvania. All doctors(Neurologists,orthopedics,infecti os disease)say that there is nohting that can be done. It must resolve itself.Surgery will probably be necessary,but not until the infection threat is gone. It is soooo confusing.He is bedridden. If he sits up,the pain in his legs is intense.(nerve damage I'm told) He can't take pain meds because his stomach started bleeding. They tell us 3-6 months of this. I am desperate for help and information. Does anyone know who I can contact that may be able to help me? I can't believe that there is nothing that can be done. Anyone ever hear of this? I would appreciate ANY information. Thank You.
