My name is Betty and I am clueless. I just happened in here out of curiosity.
I received a single lung transplant in August of 1999. I had emphysema and had been smoking for 35 years.
I have been hospitalized a few times since the transplant and they have always been able to treat me and send me home fairly quickly, but my last stay lasted 26 days and I am still infected with Mycobacterium Chelonae and am back on oxygen. This is the first time in over 3 years that I have been on oxygen at home. I was doing great!
Have any of you heard of this "bug"? The doctors at the transplant hospital tell me it might take a year or more to get rid of it and that "hopefully" I will be able to get off of oxygen. I was on oxygen and very sick before my transplant and at times, just wanted to give up.
Is there anything out there that would help me with my breathing while the antibiotics are trying to kick the "bug"? I feel like a caged animal. I can hardly do anything without having to sit down after just a few minutes. Not as bad as just before my transplant, but enough to keep me in and down. HELP.......if you can.
I would appreciate any answers, even if it's just to tell me that I will have to ask someone else. Thanks!
