Re: staph infections
Staph generally doesn't cause infection in the mouth. There is a form of Staph infection called impetigo AROUND the mouth/lips and under the nose which can have little pimple like things and "honey coloured crust", but INSIDE the mouth with blisters is not typical. Children can get certain viral infections which result in pain in the mouth including Coxsackie and Adenoviruses. They should also swab for Herpes...no, I am not suggesting abuse here, but Herpes Simplex Type I is carried in the oral mucosa of many normal individuals, and all the child has to have is a parent who suffers from cold sores to pick up the virus.
