mrsa

my 3yr. old granddaughter has been diagnosed with mrsa, can you explain what mrsa is. her mother feels she might of caught it from her by working at a nursing home. please explain. She is prescribed sulfamethoxazole-tmp susp tev, 1 teaspoon 2 times a day.
