Please help! My 8 year old has staph infection in his lymph nodes.
My son, who is 8 yrs old has recently (4-12-10) had his tonsils and adenoids removed along with a biopsy of his right side lymph node, due to the recommendation of his ENT because of swollen lymph nodes in both sides of his neck. He stated he belived his lymph nodes were swollen due to one of two reasons.....his tonsils constantly draining or the possibility of cancer. My son has had these for over a year now. The results of the biopsy came back two weeks later and the NP said "the lymph nodes are collecting cells that just arent dissipating fast enough". I was completely confused and not at all convinced of their finding. I then called to have the results faxed over to my sons PCP. She called the next day to inform me of her findings......He has staph infection in his lymph nodes. The other doctors mention NOTHING of this. She immediately called in a strong prescription for antibiotics. He is to take this for 10 days and if nothing changes she is sending him to a infectious disease specialist. I dont understand this at all, he does not and has not ever been diagnosed with staph. And his PCP doesnt understand HOW or WHY it would be IN his lymph nodes!!!! He has no rash and as I have already said his lymph nodes have been like this for over a year!!!! How could he have gotten this? Should I have the rest of the family tested? ( since he has had this for over a year!!) Can he go to school? Is this contagious? I need help!!!!! Please
