| | possible recurring staph infection in collar bone?
18 months ago I had a nasty staph infection on my clavicle at the inner joint. At the end of 6 weeks of antibiotics, the infection appeared to be gone, but the bone was still slightly enlarged. Either the infection was not completely gone and could possibly flare up (according to the ID doc), or when the bone repaired itself, it went a bit overboard and the bone was permanently larger (according to the orthopedist). The ID doc said to come back immediately if there was any swelling not due to stress.
I've had twinges in the bone over the last two months, plus a little swelling, and figured it was because I hadn't been exercising and had bad posture. So I started swimming & using a recumbent cross trainer. At the end of last week I added sit-ups. two days after I did a set of 10 push-ups, I am experiencing swelling like I had when the staph infection was brewing. It's under some control with Naproxen, but I am worried. My ID doc left town in the meantime, and I'm working on getting an appointment with the new one.
Could this really be a recurrence? Is it caused by exercise? Will this collarbone always be on the fragile side? I'm looking for input while I try to wangle an appointment that is sooner than August. (gulp!)
