| Hubby has Osteomyelitis (Staph Infection)
My hubby was diagnosed with osteomyelitis about 4 weeks ago. He most likely contracted it from a back procedure (discogram). About a week after the procedure, he back progressively got so bad, he could hardly walk and was in extreme pain. An MRI with contrast revealed inflamation in one of his discs that was most likely osteomyelitis. They tried for a bioposy, but the affected area was too deep. He spent a week and half in the hospital until they found what they think may be the right antibiotic to treat this. Even so, he is showing only slight infection improvement in his blood work.
He is now taknig the antibotics at home intravenously through a PIC line. He is on a combination of two narcotics for the pain, and they just take the edge off.
Starting a few days ago, his neck started to hurt. He thought it might just be that he "slept wrong," but it is not going away. I hope and pray this super bug did not spread to his head. He is going to see the specialist who has been following him since this (an infectious disease doctor).
My husband's diabetes isn't helping him fight this infection, and may have helped him get it.
It's hard to see him in constant pain. I'd love to hear how you all cope with it. Thanks for listening!
