Hi Everyone ,
I'm assuming this may be the correct board to post on , since Aug of 2011 I have had Strep G 5 times. My first time having it , I had a high fever 103 severe throat pain , headache neck stiffness..and pus on my tonsils. I was given a throat swab at the drs and put on a persription of amoxil 500 X 3 about 3 days after I felt way better and at the end of the antibiotics it was like I hadn't had it at all...Dr office called and said I had strep G which I've never heard of before...
So 3-4 days after finishing the meds I started again with sore throat , looked in my mouth and sen pus also i had a slight fever and all of the other symptoms , went to doc and he did another throat swab and gave me the antibiotic keflex 500X3 for 10 days, after first pill I immediately felt better next day all better no pus no nothing , I ended up forgetting a few days of the antibiotic..I know I'm not supposed to but at that time I was also going thru a divorce and it was bad... about 7 days finsihed the meds and my sore throat came back again no fever but pus on tonsils , so I went back to the doc and he gave me another 10 days of Keflex and again cleared it all up 2 weeks later I got it back , just pus on tonsils and mild sore throat no headache or fever... So went to dr did another throat swab same thing strep G and put me on amoxil-clauvulante acid 500X3 a day 10 days... and it seemed to of disappeared for quite sometime, i would have off and on mild sore throat but no pus...I even went to the doc's to have another throat swab to see if strep G was still present and it was...He then said I was probably a carrier.... So I'm like ok I guess...Last time I seen him was december... I would still have mild sore throat occassionally but it would go away no pus just when I had the sore throat my tonsils were red.
Now 2 days ago I wake up with a sore throat and pus and I'm like (sweet again) I go to doc , given the amoxil clav acid stuff and a throat swab... She said it maybe just a over colonization of strep G in my system... Has anyone ever heard of this before ? or anything like it?
I'm in good health up until this point it just seems so weird It won't go away completely.. Any thoughts I would really appreciate as I'm running out of answers and tired of all this antibiotic's..doc is sending me to a infectious disease specialist but won't be until 7-8 months away and I'm sacred the ENT next month will just hack them off to eagerly and I really don't think cutting them out will get rid of the strep in my throat..
